Workshop Description

Unlock the beauty of ornamental borders in this comprehensive course. We'll start with a brief introduction to ornamental borders, covering their definition, characteristics, and various styles. Discover the decorative and practical applications of ornamental borders in architecture, manuscripts, and modern design projects.

Lesson 1

Learn the basic elements of border design, focusing on acanthus leaves, scrolls, and swirls. Master the techniques for creating smooth curves and elegant lines, and understand how to integrate these elements seamlessly.

Lesson 2 

Practice different border arrangements. Explore corner designs, continuous borders, and both symmetrical and asymmetrical layouts. You’ll plan your border layout, sketch and map out your design, and make necessary adjustments.

​

We'll then move on to mastering the nib pen. Gain skills in basic pen techniques, including holding and controlling the pen, as well as advanced techniques for varied line weights and precise curves.

 

Lesson 3

Apply your knowledge to create your final drawing. Ink your design, refine the elements, and add details and textures. Finish with tips for preserving your artworks.

  • Student can submit homework to the discussion board for Anjali to critique.

  • Workshop handouts (if any), zoom links and recordings are available on the workshop page one week (or as soon as practicable) before the first lesson.
