Painting the Missal letter on Calf Vellum
With Rosemary Buczek
Starting date : 12 June 2025
Fees : HK$ 780 or US$ 100
Workshop Description
In this workshop we will draw and paint a Missal letter on calf vellum. Painting on vellum is lovely and truly a perfect surface! In book making the vellum cannot be stretched as one usually paints on the verso. Therefore, the painting technique is unique to vellum so in this class we will work through this method of painting on vellum. Vellum tends to cockle under water so we will discuss all that while we work on it. We will not be stretching this vellum and I will explain why in the class. Students will need a piece of mat board about 8 x 10 inches or so for the purpose of taping down the vellum while we work. We will work through drawing the missal letter and as well a pencil drawing of the H will be provided for you to print or copy onto the vellum. We will also need some shell gold OR a gold paint. John Neal books has several gold paints available or you may have an art supplier near you. You do not have to use real gold. I will use Shell Gold on my piece but we will paint the gold in the background of our H together. (I wanted to keep the cost of supplies down for you)
