Charlotte Dilley
Charlotte Dilley is an artist and designer based in the north of England. Leaving art behind at a young age to pursue a career as a Producer, she travelled to the Alhambra in 2001 and her passion for traditional decorative art was reignited. She subsequently studied with the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London and discovered the profound interplay between nature’s forms and the universal language of geometry. “I fell in love with the abstracted vegetal and floral designs that decorate elemental geometric foundations. This marriage of structured precision and the untamed beauty of nature resonated deeply with me.”
Charlotte has been inspired to further explore the underlying order, unity and beauty in nature and is particularly inspired by the decorative visual languages and biomorphic patterns that thrive in Turkish, Persian and Islamic artistic traditions. Her work speaks a language of truth, a familiarity of shape, form and rhythm which is not just aesthetically pleasing but is comforting and reassuring because we understand them innately (the circular ripples from a raindrop, the spiralling seeds in a sunflower, the hexagonal cells of a honeycomb). Using light, delicate strokes, fine detailing and soft shading she invites us all to feel uplifted, be inspired and embrace the quiet elegance and gentle harmony of nature’s form.
