Julia Bangert is an illuminator from Germany. From an early age she has been engaged in painting, but studied book science, German language and literature and art history at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (Phd 2017).

Parallel to working on her dissertation she started painting for the Gutenberg Shop in Mainz and illuminating reprints of single pages of the Gutenberg Bible. Since 2017 she has been working both as managing director of the International Gutenberg Society in Mainz and as a freelance artist. She specializes in painting and gilding initials in the style of medieval book illumination, combining historical and modern motifs and techniques.
